WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — After being closed for months, the Blockade Runner Beach Resort is ready to reopen and just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend.

Part of the resort is now open after suffering major damage from Hurricane Florence.

The general manager says the resort had major roof damage, which caused a lot of other interior damage.

He says most of the tower will open back up starting Friday.

General Manager Nicholas Montoya says they have made major progress and are working on some cosmetic finishing touches.

He says they wanted to have the re-opening on a special occasion.

“The first day that had some kind of magnetism to it was Valentine’s Day,” Montoya said. “We’re opening Valentine’s Day weekend. We have a lot of folks that have been with us in the past, who were willing to come back and support us in our first weekend back. So we’re close to a sell out for the rooms that we’re going to have open this weekend.”

Montoya says he expects the Blockade Runner to be completely open by May.
