HOUSTON — After a nice stretch of quiet weather this week, it’s time to prepare for the next system of bad weather. A very defined area of low pressure is moving in from the Pacific and expected to be our next rain maker this weekend.
The KHOU 11 Weather Team says we aren’t expecting a “washout” of weekend plans, but you should have a backup just in case for any of your outdoor activities.
The greatest severe weather threat will be north of the Houston area late Saturday into early Sunday.
Here’s what you can expect…
HOUSTON WEATHER TIMELINE:
FRIDAY – Mostly cloudy with a 20% rain chance. High of 86. No severe weather today.
SATURDAY AM – The start of Saturday should be dry, but expect showers to increase through the day. Most of this activity should be light with a few heavy downpours possible.
SATURDAY PM – 40% rain chance, high of 86. Best rain chance kicks in after 5 p.m. A few strong to severe storms will be possible late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Although, the greatest threat for severe storms will be north of the Houston area. This is the time we recommend you stay weather aware just in case some of these storms do turn severe. The Storm Prediction Center has included the Houston area in a “Slight Risk” for severe weather. Damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado will all be a threat.
SUNDAY AM – Good chance for scattered downpours lasts through the early-morning hours.
NEXT WEEK – Starting Monday we’ll see a little sunshine but still with partly cloudy skies and a slight rain chance. High temps near 90 degrees. Scattered light rain chance lasts through the week, although downpours and storms are not expected.
Stay up to date with the KHOU Weather Team as we track this system.
