'Slight strengthening' expected from Hurricane Hanna as storm nears landfall in south Texas; could become Category 2 hurricane
Hurricane Hanna is the first hurricane of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, according to the National Hurricane Center.
As of 1 p.m., the Category 1 storm might continue to strengthen before making landfall Saturday afternoon. Hanna is about 50 miles east-northeast of Port Mansfield and about 70 miles southeast of Corpus Christi.
The storm is moving toward the west about 8 mph.
Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph and hurricane-force winds will extend outward up to 25 miles from the center.
Hurricane Hanna is expected to weaken rapidly as it moves inland.

The storm is expected to bring 6 to 12 inches of rain with isolated maximum totals of 18 inches through Sunday in South Texas and into Mexico, according to the latest forecast. Rain may cause flash flooding, rapid rises in small streams and river flooding.
A few tornadoes are possible Saturday and overnight in parts of the lower to middle Texas coastal plain.
In upper Texas and Louisiana coasts, 3 to 5 inches of rain is expected.

Evacuation orders
On Friday, Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid had issued a voluntary evacuation order, effective immediately, for Ricardo, Riviera, Baffin Bay and Loyola Beach due to the storm’s “imminent threat.”
