AUSTIN, Texas — Widespread rain and storms are bringing the threat for localized flooding across Central Texas this afternoon. The good news today is that the severe weather threat is pretty low.

The main concern through this evening is the potential for more flooding due to localized heavy rain. We’ve seen many reports already today of flooded low water crossings. If you encounter any flooding today, remember, turn around don’t drown!

A Flood Advisory remains in effect for Travis and Hays counties until 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. Widespread rain and storms will continue through much of this afternoon, before we gradually trend drier from west to east through the later afternoon and evening hours.

Another round of widespread rain and storms is likely on Friday, and high rain chances continue through the weekend, especially on Saturday. This means the potential for flooding will also continue through the weekend.

Rain chances remain in the forecast through the middle of next week with no guarantee of any drier weather for the next seven days. Seven-day rainfall totals between 1.5 and 4 inches are currently expected. Local amounts could be higher.
