Smoke pitching in to help Comfort Café recover from flood damage
Smoke BBQ + Skybar is stepping in to give Comfort Café an extra boost after the top-rated San Antonio brunch spot was closed because of flooding Tuesday morning.
Hours before Kevin Fowler takes the stage at Smoke BBQ + Skybar on Wednesday evening, owner Adrian Martinez has decided to donate money from ticket sales for the concert to a fellow struggling business.
The original Bandera location of Comfort Café, which was recently named best U.S. brunch restaurant by Yelp, will remain closed as the team recovers from damage caused by the severe weather. The pay-what-you-can, volunteer-based restaurant benefits a community of recovering addicts. It also employs community members who are working through or have graduated from the recovery program.

The country crooner was already scheduled to perform on Wednesday, July 7, but Martinez decided to make the donation after seeing Comfort Cafe’s flooding photos on Facebook earlier this week. All of the money generated from door ticket sales will be donated to his fellow San Antonio business owners in need.
“We’ve had more success at Smoke than I could have ever imagined,” Martinez tells MySA. “With our growth comes gratitude and this was a perfect opportunity to do our part in utilizing our brand to help out a fellow restaurant.”

“When something like this happens it’s our job as a community to come together and help,” the Smoke post says.
Comfort Cafe has not been available for comment, but shares online that the team is “grateful and humbled.” The second location at Los Patios, which just opened in June, will be open this weekend. The restaurant is located at 2015 Northeast Loop 410.
Smoke is located at 501 E Crockett Street.
