FORECAST: Flooding Foothills rain and more rain to come

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A tremendous amount of rain has fallen around Burke County and areas southwest of the county. Multiple Flash Flood Warnings were issued Thursday morning and now the rain is trending in the right direction. The widespread heavy rain and spots that were producing over 1-2″ of rain per hour are weakening.

Today will be an overall cloudy day with hit and miss rain showers and even a thunderstorm for the Charlotte area. This will keep temperatures in the 70s for the day. Most of the rain is falling for the Foothills and Mountains but this coverage will decrease through the day. 

Overnight on and off rain is possible as we are getting close to the end of our wet pattern for the Carolinas. Lows still in the mid to upper 60s tonight. 

Areas of fog are possible in the morning with periods of rain.  There’s also the chance of a few thunderstorms across the area.  It will be another warm day with highs in the upper 70s.  The rain/storm chance is around sixty to seventy percent.

There’s still a slight chance of showers and a few thunderstorms.  Afternoon temperatures will be in the mid 70s.  The rain/storm chance is around forty percent.  

Sunday and Monday:

Dry weather returns to end the weekend, with highs in the mid 70s Sunday afternoon. Monday is Columbus Day and it will be sunny and warm with high temperatures in the upper 70s. 

There’s an area of low pressure off the coast of South Carolina, producing showers and thunderstorms along the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina. There’s only a twenty percent chance of development over the next five days.

Fall Foliage:

The highest points of the North Carolina Mountains (Grandfather Mountain, Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain) are near their peak. Over the next several weeks, fall color makes it way down the mountainsides into the valleys and foothills.
