Warnings and Watches:

A Tornado Watch has been issued for the following counties until 6 p.m. Thursday: Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Madison, Trinity, Walker, and Washington Counties.

This area includes the cities of Brenham, Bryan, College Station, Caldwell, Crockett, Groveton, Huntsville, Madisonville, Navasota, Somerville, and Trinity.

A Tornado Watch means conditions may be favorable for the development of tornadoes in the impacted area. Now is the time to form a plan should you need to act quickly in the event of a warning.

Watch areas are typically large and cover numerous counties or even states.

The Tornado Watch was issued as a cold front takes aim at Southeast Texas and is serving as a catalyst for strong to severe thunderstorms to develop during the Thursday afternoon hours.

Our main concern is gusty winds and large hail.

We should start to see the storms develop after 3:30 p.m. as they inch closer to the Houston area. The storms will really start to materialize during the evening hours.

From 5 to 10 p.m. is our best chance for storms to fire up. One to two inches of rain is expected with these storms. However, the line of storms should move out of our area pretty quickly.

Once the storm threat diminishes late Thursday night our attention will turn to record-challenging high temperatures into the weekend.

Factor in the dew points which will be firmly in the lower 70s and we’ve got the first instance so far this year of heat indices over 100°, for days.
