NC State to play ECU Dec. 1 to makeup games cancelled during Florence

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — In-state rivals will add an unexpected chapter to their football history this fall after NC State and East Carolina agreed to play Dec. 1 in Raleigh.

The game will replace NC State’s game against West Virginia Sept. 15 that was cancelled because of Hurricane Florence’s impact in North Carolina. East Carolina was scheduled to play at Virginia Tech that day, but that game, too, was called off because of Florence.

The game is scheduled for noon at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. It will only be played if both teams fail to reach their conference championship game. Both the Atlantic Coast Conference and American Athletic Conference championships are scheduled for Dec. 1.

The Pirates and Wolfpack are already scheduled to play in 2019, 2022, 2025 and 2028.

NC State says all season tickets and parking for the originally scheduled NC State game with West Virginia will be honored for the ECU game on December 1. If the game is not played, ticket holders will be refunded at that time.

Fans who purchased single game tickets for the West Virginia game through a point of sale other than NC State Athletics (i.e. the secondary market) will need to contact the seller directly regarding those ticket purchases, NC State said in a release.
