Charlotte storm floods roads, knocks out power, brings tree down on two homes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An isolated storm moving over Charlotte Monday night brought its fair share of thunder, rain, and lightning.
Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich said the storm was moving southeast at 10 miles per hour, and lightning was a big threat.
Charlotte Fire tweeted a large tree came down on two homes in the 1400 block of Heather Lane. No injuries were reported.
Duke Energy reported around 3,000 customers without power, including 1,000 near Central Piedmont Community College’s central campus near uptown.
Some NBC Charlotte viewers shared videos and pictures of flooding occurring throughout Charlotte because of the heavy rain, including Freedom Drive.
In a span of just 5 minutes, Little Sugar Creek went up 2.5′, according to Panovich.
In the event of lightning, Panovich said stay inside and avoid taking showers or baths.
