BRUNSWICK COUNTY: Tornado confirmed in Carolina Shores

8 a.m. update: Brunswick County already experiencing damage from strong winds and heavy rainfall Thursday morning.
Light poles are down at Brunswick Community College and trees fell onto a car on Green Swamp Road. There were no injuries, but the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is advising people to stay off the roads. U.S. 17 near Shallote is closed due to standing water, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The NCDOT is reporting that the road is closed in both directions at mile marker 20 near Mount Pisgah Road SW.
