NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)– The non-profit organization, Vigilant Hope constantly looks for ways to reach out to people in under served areas.

Volunteers fed more than two hundred people breakfast and lunch.

Urban Missionary, Laura Bullock says the organization feeds people on Greenfield Street in Wilmington every Saturday.

She says they feed the homeless and those who deal with food insecurity.

Bullock tells us even the smallest changes can affect people in this area.

In addition to feeding the homeless, volunteers had a grocery giveaway to alleviate any setbacks from the storm.

“You know, this is going to be rough few days, because it took a bit of a financial hit, but what we saw with Florence, is that we had folks who didn’t even know what resources were out there,” Bullock said.

Bullock also says the organization’s main mission is to educate interested churches and communities on how they too can build connections with the homeless.

“They were so far from this neighborhood and transportation was so limited that we actually had folks today sign up with damage that they had last year that is still unaddressed,” Bulloc said.

She says they’re having a forum tomorrow night.
