Nueces County and the City Will Close Gulf and Bayfront Beaches Due to Tropical Storm
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – In a coordinated effort, the City of Corpus Christi and Nueces County are monitoring Tropical Depression 8 which has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. Tropical Depression 8 is expected to make landfall along the Texas Coast this Saturday with rain beginning Friday.
For the safety of residents, visitors and City and County employees, the beaches will be closed to everyone starting noon on Friday, July 24 through 6:00 AM on Monday, July 27. The tropical depression will cause higher than normal tides along our beaches and are expected to increase rip current risk which make it dangerous for even the most skilled swimmer. These conditions can worsen rapidly with little warning.
Starting at noon tomorrow July 24, all County and City Gulf beaches, Packery Channel Parking Lot and Windward Parking Lot, along with McGee Beach and North Beach will also be close. There will not be any lifeguards on duty at the beaches.
