Portions of the San Antonio River Walk remained underwater Saturday after some six inches of rain fell on Bexar County over the past 72 hours, according to the National Weather Service.
A stretch of the San Antonio River’s Mission Reach was under about 2 feet of water near the confluence of the San Antonio River and San Pedro Creek. A yellow-crowned night heron was seen hunting fish on the banks of the river as strong rapids roared in the background.
Matthew Brady, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said Saturday afternoon’s two to three inches of rain led to quick flooding due to the ground being so saturated from the prior three days of rain, though the rain will have a positive impact on the drought in South Texas.
Brady reminded motorists to avoid any flooded roadways and to “turn around, don’t drown.”
