Forecast: Flash Flood Watch east of Austin until 1 p.m. Thursday

AUSTIN, Texas — The Flash Flood Watch has now been discontinued for much of the KVUE area, but remains in effect for Fayette, Lee, and Milam counties until 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Fayette County especially remains saturated with some locations receiving nearly 10 inches of rainfall in the past 48 hours. For the time being, all flash flood warnings have been allowed to expire, but additional rain and downpours remain possible through this evening and tonight. 

In some spots another 1 to 2 inches of rainfall remain possible, and this could create additional issues with flooding on top of the prior rain. This is why the Flash Flood Watch remains in effect east of Austin. 

Through Wednesday evening and the overnight, scattered showers and storms will remain possible, especially for areas along and east of Interstate-35. 

It’s possible that any additional rain could stay light enough to avoid more flooding, but even a quick inch or two on top of what’s already fallen in Fayette County could cause problems. Severe weather is not expected through tonight.

We’re expecting just lingering showers or sprinkles by Thursday morning, and the day on Thursday looks mainly dry with just isolated showers. 

However, rain and storm chances will ramp up again heading into the weekend. Friday and Saturday especially could bring more rain and storms. 

The current forecast calls for a 50 to 60 percent chance of rain both days, and then slightly drier weather by Sunday.
