— After being pounded by rain for nearly a week straight, flooding has become a major concern for central North Carolina Saturday.

The Knightdale Fire Department told WRAL News Saturday that it had been involved in “15-20 water rescues” as of Saturday evening.

One rescue in particular took place on Countrywood Drive in Wake County. Officials said crews were attempting to rescue a woman on top of a vehicle in the water of the washed-out road.

Because of the speed of the water, multiple boats were on scene to assist. The woman was eventually taken to safety with no injuries.

Knightdale Fire said it was still responding to water rescues as of Saturday night.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office tweeted Saturday that the intersection of Old Falls of Neuse Road and Riverside Drive was completely flooded.

The tweet also added that heavy debris was in the road.

Nearby at Falls of Neuse Road and Wakefield Crossing Drive, Wake Dispatch told WRAL News that Raleigh Fire Department and EMS were able to safetly get a driver out of a car that was stuck in water.

Further south, Raleigh police were directing traffic near Atlantic Avenue and Hodges Street due to flooding.

Viewer video submitted to WRAL News Saturday showed a portion of Interstate 440 westbound around mile marker 6 with a large amount of standing water.

A flash flood warning is in effect in Wake, Durham and Orange counties until 10:00 p.m.
