HOUSTON — It’s a stormy day across the Houston area. Currently, there’s a Tornado Warning for southwestern Galveston County and east-central Brazoria County until 5 p.m. Ther’es also a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for southern Galveston County and southeastern Brazoria County until 4:45 p.m.
Today’s highs will feature a large contrast from north to south. Locations north of I-10 likely stay in the 50s, meanwhile, areas south of I-10 could warm well into the 60s and even lower 70s.
This gradient is driven by the positioning and movement of a warm front. How far north that warm front lifts will determine the extent to which our area warms and also exactly where severe weather could develop later this afternoon.
Overall, the system is expected to hug the coast. As a result, the main focus for severe weather will be focused along the immediate upper Texas Coast from Matagorda county to Chambers County.
However, because the track could nudge north, strong storms could spread as far north as Montgomery County.
Regardless, Monday will feature rain for everyone at some point during the afternoon. The highest rain chances will, again, be at the coast.
Behind all of this, the weather will turn quiet for the rest of the week and stay cold with highs remaining in the mid to upper 50s each day.
