As Hurricane Idalia works its way across Florida, cities miles away from the coast are starting to get the storm’s heavy rain and winds. CBS News Miami reporter Anna McAllister has more from Lake City, Florida.

President Biden will deliver remarks Wednesday on the federal government’s response to Hurricane Idalia after his administration approved an emergency declaration before the storm made landfall as well as administration’s response to the Maui wildfires. CBS News senior White House correspondent Weijia Jiang reports.

Hurricane Idalia is weakened to a Category 2 storm after making landfall as a Category 3 hurricane. CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca has more from Florida on the conditions there and The Weather Channel meteorologist Jordan Steele joins CBS News with the latest forecast.

Floridians are feeling the impact of Hurricane Idalia as it bears down on the western part of the state. The storm is expected to impact a wide central portion of the state, including cities such as Tampa and Orlando, before moving along the Georgia and Carolina coastline Wednesday into Thursday.

Crystal River city manager Doug Baber joins “CBS Mornings” lead national correspondent David Begnaud to provide an update on Hurricane Idalia coming ashore. Crystal River, which is located in a flood zone, ordered a mandatory evacuation for all residents on Monday.
