CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Tonight

Grab an umbrella before heading outside this evening. Light to moderate showers are spreading across the Carolinas tonight. Expect showers to become heavy at times overnight into Tuesday morning. Temperatures will remain mild in the low/mid 50s. However, it will feel much cooler due to the onset on rain and breezy easterly winds.

Tomorrow

A soggy day is on tap for Tuesday. Be prepared for a messy travel day as many head home after celebrating Christmas on Monday. Temperatures will hold steady near 60 along with occasional wind gusts at 25-30 mph.

Due to the excessive rainfall over the next 24 to 36 hours, a Flood Watch has been issued for the mountains and foothills until Wednesday morning. And rainfall totals could range between 2 to 4 inches with localized higher amounts. If you live in a low-lying area or somewhere prone to flooding, please stay weather aware.

Pattern Flip Late Week

Much drier and calm conditions by Wednesday morning, expect colder and drier air to settle in for the rest of the week. This will allow for more seasonable highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s for the New Year. And get those heavy coats ready as you make plans to celebrate the new year, since temperatures will be in the 30s by midnight Sunday into Monday.
