Flood warning issued as Cape Fear River rises in Cumberland, Bladen counties

A flood warning is in effect for parts of Cumberland and Bladen counties due to high water levels for the Cape Fear River.
According to the National Weather Service, the Cape Fear River on Wednesday at the William O. Huske Lock was at 36.2 feet, expected to rise above flood stage to a crest of 46.1 feet by early Saturday morning.
A flood warning remains in effect until Sunday evening, Dec. 31, when the river is expected to fall below flood stage.
“The access road for the wildlife boat ramp at Tar Heel Ferry Road may begin to flood,” County Emergency Services cautioned. “Lowland flooding along both sides of the Cape Fear River will also worsen.”
People fishing or boating near the dam this weekend should avoid recreational activities or use caution.
If drivers encounter flooded roads, they should “turn around, don’t drown,” officials reminded.
