Tropical storm Debby blamed for building collapse in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tropical storm Debby is being blamed for a partial building collapse in downtown Wilmington.
Calls came in around 1 p.m. regarding a collapse at 205 Princess Street.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found the ceiling had collapsed from the roof to the first floor.
Fortunately, no one was hurt, and no one was in the building at the time of the collapse.
Wilmington Fire Department Battalion Chief Ryan Young, said “looks like there was already some damage to the building from prior storms or weather and just believe with the weather, especially the rain that we’ve had, it just caused the interior of the building collapse from the roof down to the first floor.”
Young also said the building has been condemned, and there is no risk of damage or collapse in any of the surrounding buildings.
