Hundreds of delayed flights at Charlotte's airport on Sunday due to severe weather
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hundreds of flights at Charlotte Douglas International Airport have been delayed or canceled Sunday as severe weather impacts the Southeast, including risks of heavy rain, gusty winds and isolated tornadoes in the Charlotte area.
Sunday is a Weather Aware day for the Charlotte region. Multiple tornado warnings were issued across the Charlotte metro area as the first line of storms quickly moved through the Carolinas. Thousands of power outages were reported with downed trees and power lines due to gusty winds.
Sunday’s flight delays come after hundreds of flights were knocked off schedule by weather on Saturday, too. WCNC Charlotte spoke with several people who were stranded at the airport for hours as they tried to catch connecting flights home.
“Got delayed about two hours, two-and-a-half, I think, plus an hour layover,” Kasey Kane said.
