Evacuations in place in Brunswick County due to wildfire

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Boiling Spring Lakes Police Department is wanting more people to evacuate due to the wildfire in Boiling Spring Lakes.
Officials say residents in the area of Nassau, Queens, Mission, Woodhaven, Greenmoss, and Drayton please evacuate at this time. Follow the instruction of emergency personnel.
Anyone who lives North or East of Nassau Road in Boiling Spring Lakes and is evacuating must use East Boiling spring lake to Funston Road.
The American Red Cross has opened the South Brunswick High School Auxiliary Gym as a shelter due to the Boiling Spring Lakes fire. Any domestic animals must be in a kennel or crate (kennels will be available from the sheriff’s department).
Brunswick County Chairman Mike Forte has declared a state of emergency effective Friday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. due to the wildfire that currently exists in the Boiling Spring Lakes community and surrounding environs.
