2 EF0 tornadoes touched down near Wimberley during Thursday's early morning storms
The two short-lived tornadoes touched down near Wimberley just after 1 a.m.
HAYS COUNTY, Texas — Two small tornadoes touched down near Wimberley early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm impacted an area south of Wimberley just after 1 a.m., near FM 32 and Ranch Road 12. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook on Thursday stating responders “were notified of minor damage and there have been no reported injuries.”
The National Weather Service said it conducted a damage survey Thursday of thunderstorms that impacted the area and discovered damage congruent with two separate, short-lived EF0 tornadoes.
The first tornado started at around 1:02 a.m. just east of Purgatory Road, south of FM 32 in Wimberley. It reached a peak wind speed of 80 mph, was 50 yards wide and traveled a length of 1.4 miles before dissipating at 1:05 a.m. It primarily caused damage to trees, with minor damage to structures.
The second tornado started at around 1:06 a.m. It reached a peak speed of 80 mph, was 75 yards wide and traveled a length of .59 miles before dissipating at 1:08 a.m. The tornado moved just north of the intersection of Teton Circle and Appalachian Road, with most of its damage occurring in that area.
