Leeann Valdez says her aunt survived but her dad didn’t make it, just a few days shy of Father’s Day.
SAN ANTONIO — Several days after the flash flood that took the lives of 13 people, memorials are left at Briar Glen Trail Head.
One of the people who lost their lives was 67-year-old Carlos Valdez III. On Monday, his daughter spoke with KENS 5 saying her father is gone too soon.
“It just broke me,” Leeann Valdez said. “My whole body was numb. It’s just sad that he lost his life to a flood.”
Speaking through tears, Leeann says she learned from her cousin that her father passed.
“He was coming from work,” she said. “But I just don’t understand why he just didn’t wait, and he just decided to drive. He was with my aunt too at the time, they were coming from work.”
Leeann says her aunt survived but her dad didn’t make it, just a few days shy of Father’s Day.
“He had plans to do a barbeque for my grandpa and my brother for his birthday, Father’s Day,” Leeann said.
What she is asking for now is the community’s support for a proper burial for her father.
“He was very funny,” she said. “Loved his family a lot. It’s just hard that he’s gone.”
