Barry is the second named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. It weakened to a depression before making landfall Sunday night.
HOUSTON — What was Tropical Storm Barry weakened to a Tropical Depression just before making landfall this Sunday evening near Tampico, Mexico. according to the National Hurricane Center. The remains of Barry will bring heavy rain to central Mexico over the next couple of days.
With the 10 p.m. Sunday update, Barry had maximum sustained winds at 35 miles per hour and had moved inland near Tampico, Mexico.
Current situation
The storm is now inland as a Tropical Depression. What’s left of the system will bring heavy rain and a flash flood threat to central Mexico over the next few days.
Potential impacts
Rain chances across the Houston area will fall on Monday and the rest of the week as most of the left over moisture from Barry dumps heavy rain in Central Mexico.

Storm naming
If the disturbance develops into a tropical storm, it would be named Barry. The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season has already produced one named storm – Andrea, which formed north of Bermuda and moved into the open Atlantic without affecting land.
Statistically, June and July development typically occurs in the Gulf, Western Caribbean, or along the east coast.
