Houston, Montgomery County firefighters sent to Kerr County to help with devastating flooding

The Houston Fire Department is sending four firefighters with the Tactical Deployment Unit to assist first responders in Central Texas.
HOUSTON — Several firefighters from the Houston area were sent to Kerr County on Friday to help first responders after catastrophic flooding inundated Kerrville and surrounding communities.
Rescue efforts continued into the afternoon, but county officials confirmed there were multiple deaths.
Video from KENS-TV, our sister station in San Antonio, showed vehicles being swept away in the fast-moving floodwaters.

“The loss of life and damage to the communities in Central Texas is tragic. As we so often see help from around the state come to Houston when we face floods, we are proud to be able to support others in their time of need,” Houston Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz said.

Additionally, three HFD firefighters deployed as part of Texas A&M Task Force One.
“My thoughts are with the people of Kerr County and surrounding areas affected by the devastating flooding and loss of life,” Mayor John Whitmire said on X. “As mayor of a city that knows the toll of major storms, I understand the fear and uncertainty so many are feeling. I’m in contact with Houstonians in the Hill Country, including parents with children in summer camps, and checking on their well-being. I know that our members of the Houston Fire Department will do a great job assisting with response and recovery during this difficult time.”
Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said Montgomery County firefighters were also deployed to assist in Central Texas near Kerr County.
“Please pray for our firefighters and their families as they deploy and for the Texas families having the deal with this catastrophic flood,” Keough said.
The firefighters came from Montgomery County ESD 1 and Needham.
“Our Emergency Management incident management team is on standby and may also deploy as needed,” Keough said. “As always, we help our neighbors because when we need it they help us.”
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said the state’s emergency response team was coordinating flood relief efforts with his office.
“The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and other state emergency response assets are on the ground assisting Texas communities with response operations and other unmet needs,” Patrick said in a statement.
