How to report people missing in catastrophic Kerr County flooding

KERR COUNTY, Texas — Heavy rain brought catastrophic flooding to Kerr County and areas along the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country on Friday.

On Saturday, officials reported that at least 27 people were found dead, including nine children. Many others are still missing.

Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said families can report people who are still missing by calling 830-258-1111 or by sending an email to floodrecovery@co.kerr.tx.us.

City Manager Dalton Rice said a total of 27 children from Camp Mystic, which is located along the Guadalupe River, are still missing. He said he could not comment on how many others are missing.

Leitha said that as of Saturday morning, more than 850 people had been evacuated unharmed. Eight people were rescued with injuries.

“One thing I want to tell you and ensure y’all, is we will not stop until every single person is found,” the sheriff said. “We’ve got all the resources we need, we’re here for the long haul.”

For those who need help, the sheriff said there is a shelter at the First United Methodist Church, located at 321 Thompson Drive in Kerrville. He said they don’t currently need material donations or volunteers, but are coordinating with state officials.

Leitha said cash donations can be made to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.

“This community is strong and will continue to pull together during this tragic time,” he said. “We have been humbled by the outpouring of support. We are very appreciative of everyone that has stepped up to help us.”
