The City of Marble Falls issued a boil water notice this week following compromises to the city’s drinking water supply from the historic Fourth of July floods.

Marble Falls’ boil water notice took effect on Tuesday, July 15, at 4 p.m., with city officials urging all residents to boil all water supplies prior to consuming it via drinking, cooking or making ice. All water supplies to be consumed must be brought to a rolling boil and boiled for two minutes before allowing it to cool. Residents can also purchase bottled water instead of boiling it, should they choose.

Officials said they will share out additional information once the boil notice is lifted. Those needing to contact the city regarding the notice can call the City of Marble Falls’ Public Works Department at 830-798-6260.

Marble Falls, located in Burnet County, suffered from damages after historic rainstorms and catastrophic flooding ripped through Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country during the Fourth of July weekend. As of Saturday, July 12, the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office said crews had responded to 63 rescue calls and there were five confirmed fatalities due to the holiday weekend floods, with the sole missing person being Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department Chief Michael Phillips.

On Tuesday, that volunteer agency announced an “end of watch” for Phillips, who remains missing but is presumed dead after he responded to a call for help during the early morning hours of July 5.

“He was more than just a friend, mentor, and leader — he was our family,” the department wrote. “His absence will leave a void in our hearts and our department that cannot be filled. We will honor his legacy and the extraordinary service he gave to our community by continuing to be the first responders he strived for us to be.”
