EAST ARCADIA, NC (WWAY) –Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire Rescue crews were called to East Arcadia in Bladen County overnight after rising floodwaters threatened homes, according to the department.

In a social media post, the agency said nine people were safely rescued from two residences during the incident. Fire officials credited the outcome to the dedication, training and teamwork of their members.

“The bravest hearts are those that run toward the storm, not away from it,” the post said.

The department is also using the rescue as a reminder of the need for more volunteers. ADR says it provides training and equipment for those willing to serve.
