PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Nearly three weeks after Hurricane Florence a major highway in Pender County remains impassable.
Drone photos were released by NCDOT of Highway 53 between Interstate 40 and Highway 50 in Maple Hill of flooding just days after the storm. One lane of the road is completely washed out.

NCDOT Spokesman Andrew Barksdale said a 20-acre pond adjacent to Highway 53 near Whitestocking Road breached during the storm.
The property owner must repair their dike. Once that’s done, Barksdale says the DOT can fix the shoulder and roadway.
They say it will likely take about six weeks to repair.
