Officials say Wildfire is still active in Boiling Spring Lakes

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAYY) — Officials say the wildfire affecting Boiling Spring Lakes and surrounding parts of Brunswick County is still active, and not 100 percent contained.

According to Boiling Spring Lakes Mayor Jeff Winecoff, high winds this morning caused the fire to pick up again. Officials are now working to box off an estimated 4,500 acres as the fire continues to shift.

Mandatory Evacuations Expanded

The Boiling Spring Lakes Police Department reports that the following areas/roads are under mandatory evacuation:

  • Barclay Road

  • Pine Lake

  • Drayton

  • Robin

  • Cherry

  • Bordeaux

Officials have confirmed that the detour route is closed. Residents should instead use Pine Road to East Boiling Spring Lakes Road to Funston.

Shelter and Emergency Services

According to officials South Brunswick High School remains open as a shelter for displaced residents.

Mayor Winecoff also shared that he is at city hall with other officials.
