Crews battle wildfire in rural area west of Fredericksburg
The fire, named the Reverse Fire, is burning near the 400 block of E. Grand Oak Drive in Harper, about 10 miles west of Fredericksburg.
HARPER, Texas — Crews are battling a 75-acre wildfire near Fredericksburg on Tuesday evening.
The fire, named the Reverse Fire, is burning near the 400 block of E. Grand Oaks Drive in Harper, about 10 miles west of Fredericksburg, in a rural area heavily covered in cedar trees, Fredericksburg Fire EMS said.
As of around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, the fire was 75 acres in size and 70% contained, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
According to Fredericksburg Fire/EMS, the fire was caused by debris burning.
The fire began around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday and was moving eastward, sparking spot fires.
Multiple fire crews from across Central Texas and the Texas A&M Forest Service are actively working to contain the fire.
Two bulldozers are being used to establish containment lines. Crews also utilized a drone and helicopter to direct crews on the ground.
“Thanks to the coordination and quick response of our crews, we were able to get containment started on this fire,” Fredericksburg Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell said. “Cedar trees and numerous piles of dead vegetation throughout the area continue to ignite and throw embers to start new spot fires. Our team will continue to work throughout the night to make sure there are no flareups.”
