Flash flooding remains a threat today after heavy rain in Uptown and surrounding areas.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Weather Alert: Flash flooding still a concern

Some rain totals from Uptown and areas immediately south have seen 2-5 inches of rain which prompted a Considerable Flash Flood Warning Thursday evening.

WHEN:

  • Today through tonight.
  • Morning rain will wind down giving way to an eventual sunshine.
  • Scattered showers and storms will develop this afternoon and continue into the evening and overnight.
  • Current timing trending highest after 4 p.m. Once the sunshine becomes more prevalent you know you are within a couple to a few of hours of an increase in storm coverage.

🌧️ IMPACT:

  • Flash flooding remains a threat, especially in areas that saw heavy rain on Thursday.
  • Slow-moving storms could dump heavy rainfall over already saturated ground, leading to urban flooding and quick rises in creeks and streams.
  • The Charlotte metro and parts of the northern upstate are particularly vulnerable due to recent rainfall.
  • A Marginal Risk (low) for excessive rainfall remains in place today.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Avoid flooded roads — turn around, don’t drown.
  • Keep a close eye on the radar, especially late today through tonight.
  • Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, especially if you live in a flood-prone area.
  • Conditions may worsen quickly if storms train over the same area.
