With hurricane season underway, Leland holds expo to boost preparedness

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — We are already a couple of weeks into the hurricane season and the Town of Leland held a Hurricane Expo at the Leland Cultural Arts Center to help people better prepare. 

Many people gathered to learn more information for this upcoming hurricane season, including how to stay prepared and what to do if a hurricane threatens your community.  

Multiple agencies, including the National Weather Service, Emergency Management, Town Officials, first responders, and the American Red Cross had tables set up providing the community with important information. 

The town also held workshops and a Q & A roundtable. 

Leland resident Phil Sindel found the hurricane expo to be helpful.  

“It’s a great place that puts everything together in one spot so you’re not running around to different organizations or combing through different websites. You can just walk up and down the aisles, collect what you need and also ask questions,” Sindel said.  

He added that he has been to the Hurricane Expo before and learned more about the necessary items in a hurricane kit.

The WWAY Storm Track 3 team was there answering people’s questions and programming weather radios to help people prepare for the hurricane season.
