WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County held an information session Monday night on Hazard Mitigation Grant programs from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
The event was meant to teach homeowners, businesses, and community organizations that were victims of Hurricane Florence, what assistance programs are available to them.
Kate Murphy with the Hurricane Florence Recovery Coordination Office says these programs are separate from FEMA assistance, but you only have a limited time to apply.
“These programs can help property owners essentially build back or mitigate risk against future storms,” said Murphy. “And that can be through acquisition or buyout of the property, elevation of the property, or reconstruction of the property.”
The deadline to apply is Wednesday February 6th.
