Houston Forecast: Hurricane Hanna effects being felt all along Gulf coast
We have our first hurricane of the season and it’s making landfall in southern Texas later today. We’ll get rain, wind and rough surf here in Houston.
HOUSTON — Hanna has now strengthened to hurricane status, becoming the first hurricane of the 2020 season.
Hanna is expected to make landfall south of Corpus Christi midday today.
The Houston area will still see scattered shower and thunderstorm activity but not as much as areas to our south will be getting.
Much of this rain will be from the outer bands of Hurricane Hanna.

There was a tornado warning issued for Fort Bend County and Wharton County early Saturday morning. That warning expired at 7:15 a.m. Due to the rotational motion of tropical cyclones, like Hurricane Hanna, low grade tornadic activity (<10%) is expected as they approach their landfall, from those outer bands pushing in towards coastal communities and adjacent counties.
Expect a 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms after lunchtime into the early evening.

Due to Hurricane Hanna, Houston may get 1 to 4 inches of widespread rain through the weekend. If you live closer to the coast, you may get 4-6 inches of rain.
Showers and storms will continue through early next week as well.
