Reports: Homes destroyed, people injured after tornado touched down in Bertie County
Windsor, N.C. — The sun is out, and officials are getting a better idea of the severe damage and possible injuries winds from Hurricane Isaias brought to Bertie County.
Officials believe a tornado touched down in the town of Windsor on Morning Road. Residents in the area told WRAL News that between 15 and 20 mobile homes were hit by the tornado. They also believe people were badly injured.
The destruction was so severe that Bertie County deputies wouldn’t let WRAL News approach the badly hit area.
Several miles away, in the parking lot of Abrams BBQ on U.S. Highway 13, a fried chicken food truck was on its side, possibly as a result of the tornado. The restaurant itself was missing an entire side due to wind damage.
Inside, chairs were still stacked on tables, but the entire side was missing.
Bertie County Government did not confirm injuries but did post on Facebook, saying, “”It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge and confirm information that has been posted in several public Facebook postings…”
