Update on Hurricane Florence aftermath in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An update briefing on Hurricane Florence aftermath in Brunswick County was held in Leland Wednesday morning.
Brunswick County Board of Commissioners Chairman Frank Williams was joined by Leland Mayor Brenda Boseman, Navassa Mayor Eulis Willis, and Belville Mayor Mike Allen.

Williams says Duke Energy expects to have all power restored in Brunswick County by Friday.
He says the county will waive all building inspection fees for any storm related damage until at least October 1.
A main concern right now is flooding as the Waccamaw River continues to rise.
“One thing I do want to point out for those who live in the Waccamaw River area in the southern part of the county, is that the sewer down there will be impacted by this storm, and as the flood waters rise, we may have to shut the sewer off to protect the system. And that way we’ll be more able to restore it after the storm passes if we shut it off before the floodwaters reach the system,” said Williams.
Williams says the river is supposed to crest Friday, 3.5 feet higher than it did after Hurricane Matthew.
