Brooks County officials urge south Falfurrias residents to evacuate due to wildfire

Brooks County officials urged residents in south Falfurrias to evacuate due to a wildfire that affected at least 10 structures Friday afternoon.
Brooks County Judge Eric Ramos went live on Facebook around 4:30 p.m. on Friday with an update on a large fire near County Road 300, 301, 302, and 303.
Ramos said there is a mandatory evacuation for those county roads and County Road 402.
“If you live in that area, please, it’s time to leave your house,” Ramos said. “It’s past time to leave your house.”
The county is also calling for a voluntary evacuation for those living on Taylor Road.
Ramos said the Ed Rachal Public Library at 203 S. Calixto Mora Ave. will be open as a shelter for those who need it.
“If you have family members that live south of Falfurrias, please reach out to your friends, family members, neighbors, community members who may need a place or stay or some help,” Ramos said.
It’s not yet clear how the fire was started or if there were any injuries.
