NC State students displaced after power outage causes pipe burst, flooding in residence hall

RALEIGH, N.C. — Power has been restored at the central campus of NC State Tuesday after a massive outage knocked out power earlier in the afternoon.

According to a spokesperson for NC State, power was restored to the campus just after 6:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Traffic was backed up through the 6 o’clock hour in the areas of Pullen Road and Dan Allen Drive, and campus residents were advised to make alternate dinner plans, because the outage impacted Talley Student Union, Case, Clark, the Atrium and several other dining locations across campus.

According to another spokesperson for NC State, a pipe burst at Tucker Residence Hall as a result of the outage and restoration services are en route to the hall.

The flooding left multiple students displaced Tuesday.

“We really don’t know where we’re going to live, if we can’t get back there,” said Will Rouse, one of the students affected by the flooding.

One of the students, Tony Taraboi, was at the library, which also lost power, when the flooding happened.

“It’s just unlucky,” Taraboi said. “It’s a week before finals for me, so I have two finals next week.”

Cleanup crews were sent to the residence hall, which has been on the campus since the 1940s, and is currently providing students affected by the flooding with temporary housing.

Rouse and Taraboi we’re able to stay in their dorms tonight, but eight students were displaced as a result of the flooding.
