FORECAST: Risk for flash flooding across the Carolinas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Today-Friday:

A very rainy pattern this week with an upper low trapped over the region. This will pump lots of tropical moisture into the area. Some rain could be heavy, mainly in the mountains and foothills, where flash flooding is possible. Each day the rainfall chance will be 50-80%, with highs only in the mid to upper 70s. Some areas could see 3-6″ of rainfall by the end of the week. Locally heavier amounts are possible.

Tropical Update:

Tropical Storm Brett has formed over the Central Atlantic, around 1100 miles east of the southern Windward Islands.  It has sustained winds at 40 mph and is moving west at 18 mph.  Within the next few days, it’s expected to become a hurricane.

There is another wave behind that which has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression— around 70% over the next seven days.
