Rain continues, some flooding possible

Rain will continue throughout the afternoon and evening. Expect the rain to let up some around dinner time and lighter and more scattered. Overnight, another batch of moderate to heavy rain is possible. This will be the last round of showers as the rain tapers off early Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, a Flood Watch remains in effect for the mountains and foothills due to excessive rain. Be prepared to seek higher ground if you live in a flood prone area or if a flood warning is issued. Rainfall totals could range between 2 to 4 inches with localized higher amounts. If you live in a low-lying area or somewhere prone to flooding, please stay weather aware.
Changes Ahead
Much drier and calm conditions by Wednesday afternoon. Expect colder and drier air to settle in for the rest of the week. This will allow for more seasonable highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s into the New Year. And get those heavy coats ready as you make plans to celebrate then New Year, since temperatures will be in the 30s by midnight Sunday into Monday.
Drought Monitor
For the entire state of North Carolina, the abnormally dry conditions dropped 32% (from 92% to 60%) over the last week. The moderate drought dropped 22% (from 53% to 31%). The severe drought dropped 3% (from 18% to 15).
For the state of South Carolina, the abnormally dry conditions dropped 13% (from 64% to 51%) over the last week. The moderate drought dropped 14% (from 40% to 26%). The severe drought stayed the same at 11%.
