Early voting for May 28 primary runoff elections will go on, despite storm damage

Early voting for the May 28 primary runoff will go on as planned on Monday, despite damage reported to some of the Harris County elections facilities. Some locations, however, will not be open for voters.

On Sunday night, Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth said in a news release that 44 voting centers will be open from May 20 through May 24 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

There will be some locations, however, that won’t be open. The ones that won’t open are the following:

“Our hearts are with everyone affected by the storm,” said Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth. “Although our office was also impacted, we have worked tirelessly around the clock to ensure that the May 28 Primary Runoff Elections proceed as planned.”

On Friday, the Harris County clerk’s office said that their election technology center, where a lot of election equipment is held, was damaged in Thursday’s storms. The building that election worker trainings are held was also damaged and according to Hudspeth, is uninhabitable.
