Tropical Storm Hilary moved through Southern California overnight after making landfall in Mexico’s Baja California peninsula on Sunday. It’s been decades since a tropical storm hit California, and it brought record rainfall, flooding and mudslides. Carter Evans reports.

At least 114 people have been killed and hundreds remain missing after the wildfires this month in Hawaii, but there’s also concern about how the fires will affect the coral reefs around Maui. The fires that devastated Maui this month appear to be an example of a “compound disaster,” meaning multiple factors were at play, according to reporting in The Washington Post. Global weather writer Scott Dance, the author of The Washington Post report, joined CBS News to discuss what some of those factors were.
