HOUSTON – The Texas Division of Emergency Management announced it’s extending the deadline for its Hurricane Harvey Mitigation Grant Program. The state said it will be accepting applications until Jan. 31, 2019. In February, Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott announced the availability of hundreds of millions of grant funds that were available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s HMGP, according to a press release. HOUSTON – A strong line of storms is pushing through the Houston area Thursday morning, bringing heavy rain to parts of the area. A flood advisory is in effect for much of the area and drivers should watch for street flooding. Houston TranStar is not reporting high water on any roads at this time. HOUSTON – A tornado watch has been issued for Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda and Wharton counties until 11 a.m. as a line of thunderstorms continues to push into the metro area. An earlier watch for counties to the north of the Houston Metro was allowed to expire. The Houston area is expecting severe thunderstorms and localized flooding, with potential isolated tornadoes Wednesday and Thursday. Showers are supposed to start Wednesday afternoon and turn into storms by nighttime, with one to three inches of rain possible overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Houston. Winds up to 25 mph are expected overnight, as well. Meteorologists say the greatest risk for localized flooding and isolated tornadoes would start at midnight through morning Thursday.
