NWS confirms tornado touched down in Porters Neck area Saturday night

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) –

The National Weather Service confirms an EF0 tornado touched down briefly at 9:30 Saturday night.

The tornado touched down on the north side of Porters Neck Road between Porters Neck Road and Tibbys Drive.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado traveled a quarter mile, for less than two minutes, reaching a maximum wind speed of 85 mph. 

No one was injured during the tornado, but it snapped a couple dozen trees up to 16 inches in diameter and uprooted a few large trees.
