The Houston area will experience a break from the rain this morning before a second wave possibly starts later Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters predict a 30% chance of thunderstorms today, but flooding is not anticipated, the weather service said. The main hazards today will be damaging winds greater than 60 mph and large hail.
The areas west of Harris County have the highest chance to see severe weather today. Harris County has only been classified as a moderate risk.
The rain is expected to arrived in the mid to late afternoon. It could still make driving challenging, so meteorologists urged drivers to slow down.
Forecasters predict a 40% chance for thunderstorms Friday and a mostly clear weekend.
