Damaging wind speeds, severe thunderstorms, lightning, hail and tornadoes ripped through parts of North Texas Sunday, according to the National Weather Service – Fort Worth (NWSFW).
The NWS confirmed three tornadoes touched down in parts of North Texas during the Sunday storms, namely in Fort Worth and Arlington. The NWS confirmed the three tornadoes in a series of tweets Monday.
An EF-0 tornado with wind speeds of 85 mph traveled one mile through North Fort Worth in the Crawford Farms to Vista Meadows subdivisions, according to the NWS. A second, brief EF-1 tornado with wind speeds of 95 mph occurred in Arlington, and a third tornado occurred over Eagle Mountain Lake near Fort Worth, with no damage reported in that area,
The severe weather caused damage to homes and led to massive power outages across northern parts of the state, according to WFAA. The storms led to two minor injuries in Arlington, city officials told WFAA. The Lake Arlington area, and the area near Collins Street and the Road to Six Flags were hit the hardest, WFAA reported.
Some areas across Central Texas also saw severe thunderstorms and wind, including San Antonio. Closer to Houston, a flood warning has been issued through Tuesday evening for the Trinity River in Liberty, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS warned potential storms could continue through the middle portion of this week in North Texas, mostly during the evening and overnight hours. The NWS said storms are “forecast to re-develop” and “there remains a high degree of uncertainty in exactly where storms will occur.”
