— Several inches of rain could fall throughout central North Carolina on Wednesday and Thursday, triggering a risk for isolated flooding.

A great number of counties west of the Triangle, including Orange and Person, and some east of the Triangle, are under a flash flood watch until 7 p.m.

The viewing area, from Greenville and the Interstate 95 corridor west through the Triangle and the Triad, is at a medium risk for flash flooding through Wednesday.

WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said rain chances will increase throughout the day Wednesday. The morning will start out with a 30% chance of rain and then by afternoon will be up to 80%.

Rain chances will continue to stay high with a 50-60% chance for the evening.

The rain could be heavy at times, especially in the afternoon and into the night, with up to 3 inches possible by Wednesday night. There is also a chance for storms.

Rainfall predicted over the next week

Thursday will be another rainy day, and through Friday, we could see up to 5 inches of rain.

Temperatures stay warm, though, with highs in the 70s and overnight lows in the 60s.

Friday brings fewer showers and the start of a few cooler days. The weekend also looks mild, with highs in the mid to upper 60s, although the rain chance lingers through Saturday.
