Corpus Christi is in for another rainy day with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms Friday.

The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi said flooding is possible throughout the day, with a possible 2 to 4 inches of rain.

Rain will continue throughout the weekend and into early next week.

There is a low risk of rip currents Friday, but the NWS Corpus Christi warns rip currents are still possible especially near piers and jetties.

At 7:25 a.m., NWS Corpus Christi tweeted Corpus Christi, Portland and Robstown are under a flash flood warning until 10 a.m.

The Corpus Christi Police Department tweeted Friday morning that North Padre Island Drive under Leopard Street, and along IH 37, has severe flooding. The department reported several vehicles have become disabled when driving through the high water.

Harbor Bridge Project crews have temporarily closed the detour from northbound State Highway  286 to Highway 181 and Staples Street and the loop ramp to southbound State Highway  286 due to flooding and debris. Motorists are urged to proceed through the Interstate Highway 37 and State Highway 286 interchange with extreme caution and be prepared for additional closures if flooding persists.

Crews are on location to remove debris and direct traffic to the Comanche Street exit and Martin Luther King Drive frontage road.

  • SH 286 and the Agnes Street exit

Motorists should drive slower than usual, so you have time to react to other traffic on the roadway. Be sure to turn on your headlights, so you are visible to other vehicles and pedestrians.

Be aware of possible flooding in low-lying areas. If you must be on the road, be aware and find an alternative route.
